Artist to Watch: Singer & Songwriter Afie Jurvanen aka Bahamas

The refreshingly honest, Toronto-based singer-songwriter, Afie Jurvanen, also known as Bahamas, will release"Barchords,” the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2009 debut “Pink Strat,” on February 7.

As tropical as his name may sound, Bahamas is not from the Carriben, but from a rural town in Ontario, Canada. Afie Jurvanen (pronounced AY-fee), has spent the majority of his career, masterfully collaborating with some of music’s best artists as a prominent member of Feist’s touring band, as well as exploring music as a solo artist under the moniker Bahamas. His debut album, “Pink Strat” received both nominations from Canada’s esteemed Juno Awards and 2010’s Polaris Music Prize.

His latest effort, “Barchords” further expands upon Jurvanen’s soulful voice and keen ear for composition, while maintaining a vulnerable, down-to-earth aesthetic.
