Australian duo For King & Country, featuring brothers Joel and Luke, may be this year’s answer to Coldplay. Their melodic and cinematic rock and poetic lyrics have them on the fast track to be one of the most noteworthy debuts of 2012.
Born in Sydney, Australia, Joel and Luke relocated to the US as kids when their dad was offered a job as a concert promoter in Nashville, TN. “Music was always a part of our lives,” says Joel.
However, he soon lost his job and the family, with16 suitcases and seven children, were stranded. “We pulled together together, it made us stronger,” recalls Joel. A musical family, both Joel and Luke quickly took to following their passion.
Of the band’s debut album, “Crave,” which will be released on February 28, Luke says some of the songs were written as far back as four years ago. The album features tracks produced by Shaun Shankel, Aqualung and Ben Glover and a number of songs have already been licensed for film and TV, including placements on “The Vampire Diaries” and “Drop Dead Diva.”
Why call the album “Crave”?
“Because hope is what we ‘crave,” explains Joel. “This album is about life, love, depressions, relationships…We wanted to create music that is authentic and reflected what we are really going through. Hope makes us human.”
