For King & Country Exclusive Blog: The Impact of a Tune
photo

Australian duo For King & Country, featuring brothers Joel and Luke, may be this year’s answer to Coldplay. They will be posting exclusive blogs leading up to the release of their debut album, “Crave,” on February 28! Here, Joel talks about the impact music has in changing people’s lives.

First, I’d be remiss if I did not say good day to you, and cheers to the folks at The Comet for posting these weekly blogs until the release of our debut record on the 28th of February! Side note: We’re quite stoked….sort of like kids in a lolly shop.

Okay, here’s something that’s peculiar to me. Someone can sit in a living room, dream up a lyric and a melody (ultimately a song) and then, given the right timing and opportunity – BAM – that little ol’ song that was dreamed up in that living room, can reach and spread all over the globe. Not only that, but it can impact an individual standing in a crowd, driving in a car, running on a treadmill, or sitting on a school bus! Even more peculiar to me is that somehow the listener can even grasp the emotion of those who put pen to paper and a melody to a cord.

I’d like to show you an image from last weekend:

This is Luke, my brother, and I performing outside Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL. There was a crowd of folks waiting for the doors to open so we decided to sing for them while they waited. Later that evening after playing the “real show” we met a teenage girl, a senior in high school who unbeknownst to us, had been house hopping from family member to family member since her (single) mum had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in ‘08. They’d run out money and were left scrambling. All that to say, this young girl was hurting. One of her siblings invited her to the gig that night and at that show some of the songs we sang, that had been written in our own times of pain or about those we cared for, encouraged her to press on and gave her HOPE! How brilliant is that?!

Music has power doesn’t it!? That’s why we love what we do and work hard doing what we do. It’s also why we appreciate people like you, and TheComet.com. We feel an affinity with you because of our mutual love for music.

Over the next six weeks we’ll be sharing weekly blogs, pictures and stories about how music is impacting us and those around us. So as we tour, meet fans, and prepare for the release of our album, we invite you to embark on this musical journey with us here at The Comet.

More to come…

I am tired of being a regular guy. So now I want to be king of a country. I figure that sometime long ago one guy took it upon himself to declare himself king and then tell everyone he is different then the rest of the people, God picked him even. So why not do it now? So which country? King Buzz awaits!
