The full-length feature documentary, “Paul Simon: Under African Skies,” from Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger, follows Paul Simon’s return to South Africa, 25 years after his first visit, where he recorded his landmark album “Graceland.” The film will premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival before its limited release.
“Under African Skies” chronicles the making of 1986’s “Graceland” and the controversy surrounding Simon while he recorded the album with indigenous artists in South Africa during the apartheid regime. The film also features interviews and commentary from several other musical legends, such as Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Paul McCartney, David Byrne and Peter Gabriel.
In addition, to commemorate the album’s 25th anniversary, Legacy Recordings will release a “Graceland 25th anniversary commemorative edition deluxe collector’s box set,” as well as “a two-disc set, each featuring the original album with bonus tracks and the director’s cut of ‘Under African Skies,’” sometime this spring.
