Sir Paul to Be Feted at the White House

Paul McCartney will be honored with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song during a concert at the White House June 2.

Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Jack White, Dave Grohl, Jonas Brothers and Elvis Costello, among others, are scheduled to perform McCartney songs in tribute to the musical legend.

“Sir Paul has been writing and performing for more than five decades - as a member of iconic groups and as a solo artist - in genres ranging from rock and roll to classical compositions. But he also has made an impact far beyond music through his humanitarianism and activism around the world, which are emblematic of the spirit of the Gershwin Prize,” said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington.

McCartney is the third artist to receive the award. Paul Simon won the first Gershwin Prize in 2007 and Stevie Wonder accepted the honor in 2009.

The concert will be taped as part of the “In Performance at the White House” series to air on PBS stations July 28.
