Dance DJs Pay Tribute to Love Parade Victims

Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk and Armin van Buuren have teamed up for a musical tribute to Germany’s Love Parade victims. The DJs will release a song together titled “Remember Love” to raise money for the families of those who tragically died during the stampede.

Happy Mondays’ Bez Heads to Jail

Former Happy Mondays member Bez, best known for dancing around with maracas, has been sent to jail after reportedly attempting to strangle his ex-fiancée. The dancer, who refused to perform community service, received instead a four-week sentence on charges of common assault and using violence to secure entry.

Over 80 People Arrested at Love Festival in LA

More than 80 concertgoers have been arrested, most on drug charges, and at least 16 people were treated with injuries at the 18th annual Love Festival. The event took place this weekend inside the Los Angeles Sports Arena and attracted about 4,100 attendees.

Lady Gaga and Eminem are the King and Queen of this year’s VMA nominations, with Gaga earning a record 13 and Eminem scoring eight, making him the most-nominated male artist. Another Lilith Fair Act Bites the Dust

Some reports suggest fatigue from touring could be the reason, as leader Elly Jackson didn’t perform on Saturday’s festival stop due to laryngitis. We love the group and hope their 9:30 club date next Tuesday is still on!

Grace Jones Closes Lovebox

Grace Jones closed London’s Lovebox festival last night (July 18), performing several signature tunes like “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “Nightclubbing,” and covered Roxy Music’s “Love Is the Drug” and Edith Piaf’s “La Vie En Rose.” Grace closed her set with “Slave To The Rhythm” whilst showing off her hula-hoop skills!

HARD L.A. Goes M.I.A.

Outdoor music festival HARD L.A., featuring M.I.A and N.E.R.D. has been canceled. The event is the second fest to be scrapped since the controversial Electronic Daisy Carnival, though some reports cite poor ticket sales as the culprit. Festival organizers will instead produce “one massive event” August 7.

No ‘Best New Artist’ Grammy Nod for Gaga

Pop star Lady Gaga does not meet the eligibility requirements for the Grammy’s best new artist category this year because single “Just Dance” was nominated in 2008. Previous Grammy nominees are ineligible, according to current rules. However, Recording Academy president Neil Portnow says changes will be made “so that particular situation won’t repeat itself.” Tough break this year, Lady G.
