The producer is suing the Gilmar Group, which owns labels Ice and Iceberg, for blocking a trademark application on his brand name because it’s too similar. Willaims claims adding the word “cream” (street slang for “money”) creates a “vastly different sound, appearance, meaning and overall commercial impression.”

The presidential party is so over. Wyclef Jean will not be able to appeal the electoral commission’s decision to reject his presidential bid. Council lawyer Samuel Pierre told Reuters that rulings by the election authority’s disputes tribunal are definitive. “Therefore there is absolutely no possibility for Wyclef Jean to be added to the list of candidates approved to run in the next presidential elections,” Pierre said. “So it’s over.”

It’s official. Wyclef Jean, who was among 34 presidential hopefuls, has been deemed ineligible to run for president of Haiti. The country’s electoral council ruled that Jean did not meet a residency requirement, which demands candidates maintain five consecutive years of residency prior to running. Seems a pretty important detail to have overlooked when first considering the race, but hey, there’s still time to run for governor of California!
Looks like Wyclef Jean has not made the list of approved candidates eligible to run in Haiti’s presidential election in November. A council official told Reuters, “He is not on the list as I speak” and said the country’s electoral disputes bureau ruled that Jean’s candidacy did not satisfy legal requirements. Sean Penn will be thrilled.
