The alternative rockers ended their 2008 tour, after playing 354 shows in support of their 2008 self-titled debut, at Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles. The Comet was lucky enough to be there to witness the seminal show which featured the Calder Quartet, and paid tribute to their East L.A. origins with a local girls choir, high school marching band and mariachis. Two organizations, operated by Phish fans, have raised and distributed a combined $1 million for charity—the Mockingbird Foundation, which supports music education for children, and the Mimi Fishman Foundation, benefiting various vision-related, women, children and animal charities.
Country rocker Hank Williams III will perform a show September 18 to benefit Happy Tales Humane Shelter in Franklin, Tenn, a no-kill animal shelter. Yay!

There’s not much to say here except that The Comet staff is a big fan of the word “interweb” and happy it has found its home in the Oxford Dictionary of English. It joins words only a “tech geek” would love like “defriend” and “tweetup,” as well as “hater.” This ain’t yo mama’s dictionary anymore.

Lady Antebellum is crossing the pond for their debut U.K. concert. The Nashville trio will play the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire tomorrow night (Aug. 11) in London. Latest single “Our Kind of Love” is out now. Yay!
The Comet favorite Mark Ronson is set to release third album, “Record Collection,” on Sept. 28. The compilation of original songs marks Ronson’s debut as a vocalist and finds the super producer collaborating with an array of diverse talent, including members of Duran Duran, Boy George, Q-Tip and Ghostface Killah.
“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy confirms that Britney Spears will in fact guest star on the series. As previously reported, there will be an entire “Glee” episode devoted to Ms. Spears’ catalog but it was unclear if the pop star would appear in person. Still no word if Matthew Morrison will shave his head.
Legendary indie label Sub Pop made a bold statement to the Seattle Weekly. The label’s general manager Megan Jasper stated: “We used to give…tchotchke items away for free in an effort to entice people to pay for the music, but we’re considering flipping our strategy so that people pay for the toy and receive the music for free. Just a thought.”

U2’s 360° tour is resuming tonight in Turin, Italy. As previously reported, the U.S. dates were rescheduled for spring/summer 2011, after being postponed due to Bono’s emergency back surgery. We’ll see you in Helsinki, Bono!
